✨ What a fantastic day at Wetherby Racecourse! ✨
Sunday’s Sue Ryder Mascot Gold Cup Family Race Day was everything we hoped it would be and more!
It was wonderful to see the OPM team out in force (116!) with their families and friends, enjoying some much‑needed downtime together away from the day‑to‑day hustle and bustle of work. Wetherby Racecourse hosted a welcoming, relaxed family day, and the smiles said it all.
The adults kicked off their mascot section with a parade around the parade ring, featuring a lively dance‑off, prizes for Best Dressed Mascot, and introductions to each of the competitors. Guests enjoyed the first-ever mini mascot parade, where children aged 5-15 competed for the eagerly sought-after Mini Mascot Gold Cup Trophy, which was won by a super speedy Mrs Claus!
They were joined by over 3,500 members of the public, there to see the epic Mascot Gold Cup, where 78 mascots jostled, leapt, and tumbled over hay bale hurdles, in a chaotic sprint to lift the coveted trophy. OPM’s mascots Rapid Pouch and Label Legend gave it their all, overtaking the sizzling sausages. Sadly they were outpaced by the sonic speed of The Snooty Fox, finishing a very respectable 7th and 8th place.
Our Managing Directors Christopher Ellison & Susan Ellison had the honour of presenting the winners, and slowest mascot of each race with their trophies.
The day’s entertainment also included:
🤹♂️ performances from the National Festival Circus
🏇7 Flat horse races
🐄A petting zoo (a big hit with the kids)
🎨A busy crafting tent.
It was a brilliant day for all ages.
A huge well done to our two mascots who gave it their all out on the course (Don’t worry, your real identities are safe with us!). And most importantly, thank you to Sue Ryder for an unforgettable event that raises vital funds to support families when they need it most.
Days like this remind us how important it is to connect as a team, support our local community and have a bit of fun along the way. We’re proud to have been part of it 💛
With thanks to:
👏Sue Ryder
👏Wetherby Racecourse Hospitality & Events
👏Lindsey McManus, Andrew Wood and Harriet Wood from Sue Ryder Manorlands
👏Everyone who took part, volunteered, supported, and cheered from the sidelines
