We certainly have been busy inspiring the next generation at OPM (Labels & Packaging) Group!
This year we hosted 2 work experience students, Izzy & Devang!
Both students were welcomed to site by our friendly team and received a goody bag and safety induction.
Izzy’s interests lie in marketing and design, while Devang is interested in IT. After both receiving an in-depth tour of facilities and what we do. The students split out to follow their personalized schedule for the week.
Izzy
Izzy spent her week learning about the different departments at OPM Group and how they all fit together to produce labels and flexible packaging. She spent time with our marketing, repro & digital print team designing and creating her own chocolate box label.
“I really enjoyed being shown the different processes and piercing the production together chronologically. I was amazed but he sheer size and cost of the printing presses and the level of detail within the design aspect. I will look at flexible packaging and labels differently now, as I can appreciate the attention, and time that has been put into it, and the importance of information that is printed which allows the public to trust products.” – Izzy
Devang
Devang also had a standard factory tour, where he was introduced to each department to see how labels & flexible packaging are created from initial request to finished product. He also took part in a more in-depth tour which focused on the use of IT and automation within our site.
Devang’s focus for his work experience week was IT, during his time with our IT department Devang learnt about the importance of IT, and the difference that automation makes to our business, he also created his own UI mockup.
“My favorite part of the week was learning about the different computer languages and how they integrate with each other. I was amazed by how many aspects there are to IT, that do not just focus on cyber security. I have learnt some new skills that will help me later in life such as how to data manage within memory and how to stop overflows.” – Devang
Both Izzy and Devang have opted to stay in contact with us about future apprenticeship & recruitment vacancies for when they get older.
