At OPM Group we were fortunate to have two students from Mount St Marys Catholic High School complete their work experience with us.
Armed with a personalised handbook and goody bag, the students began their week with a safety induction and a general overview of who we are and what we do. We then informed them of their task for the week… to design, create and digitally print their own chocolate box label. (Obviously, they had a helping hand from our expert team along the way).
The students spent time with all of our departments, including, inks, marketing, customer services, sales, logistics and repro, as well as a personalised tour of our factory floor.
When asked what their favourite part of the week was, student 1 responded “It is very hard to choose because everything brought their own special insight, but I would have to say spending time with the ink department, due to it requiring a lot of problem-solving skills.” Student 2preferred the “practical activities such as watching logistics shrink-wrap pallets and helping Repro to bring their chocolate label ideas to life.”
Both students thoroughly enjoyed their time with OPM and hope to attend our planned open days later this year. It will be a great opportunity for them to learn more about our apprenticeship schemes and different recruitment options for the future.
We realise that the future of print and manufacturing is in the hands of the next generation. Working with our local community and schools allow students to enter into a world which they have never seen or experienced before. Both students were completely astounded by the time, money and effort that is put into the manufacturing of flexible packaging and labels and feel that it has changed their opinion of the manufacturing industry.
